Q&A SPOTLIGHT Three Weeks in with Ryan Hampson, Business Development Executive at Morgan Ryder

Q&A SPOTLIGHT Three Weeks in with Ryan Hampson, Business Development Executive at Morgan Ryder

As part of our employer brand activities, we sat down with one of our newest team members, Ryan Hampson, to explore his first impressions, early challenges and what it’s really like joining a recruitment business that has spent more than two decades supporting world‑class manufacturing.

Q: Ryan, do you remember your first impressions when you joined?

A: “Absolutely. I first met Pete and straight away I felt welcomed. The whole team made a real effort to help me learn. It didn’t feel corporate or cold, it felt like people genuinely wanted me to succeed.”

That sense of belonging is something we work hard to create. Recruitment is demanding but nobody succeeds alone here.

Q: Now that you’re three weeks in, is it what you expected?

A: “Honestly, no, it’s better than I expected. I thought I’d be micromanaged or eased in slowly but it’s the opposite. I can manage my own work, take ownership and there’s real trust. I like that. There’s also so much opportunity to do deeper research, which suits how I work.”

Ryan’s background in high‑performance B2B sales meant he was used to autonomy but he’s already found that Morgan Ryder offers a more meaningful learning curve than any previous role.

Q: What challenges have you faced so far?

A: “Learning how to handle ‘no, not interested’, not difficult to understand but challenging in terms of putting the hard work in consistently. And then there’s learning everything I need to know. Manufacturing is huge and every role has its own demands.”

He’s right. Our clients operate in complex environments; automotive, aerospace, defence, chemicals, FMCG and each requires a different lens. That’s why we invest so heavily in training and sector immersion.

Q: Which sectors have stood out to you the most?

A: “Engineering and defence. I’ve not seen loads of it yet but it’s the side I find most interesting. There’s so much depth to it.”

This aligns perfectly with Morgan Ryder’s heritage. For 24 years, we’ve supported engineering‑led organisations across the UK and Europe, from precision manufacturers to global defence contractors.

Q: What does a typical daily challenge look like for you right now?

A: “Understanding what’s needed for each role. Every job is different, every client is different and you have to get the detail right. That’s the challenge but also what makes it rewarding.”

This is exactly why we position ourselves as consultants that add value, not CV‑brokers. The detail matters.

Q: How are you finding the responsibility of generating new customers?

A: “It comes down to listening. If you listen to the information you’re given, have the drive to learn and have a team that supports you, you can do it. And I’ve definitely got that here.”

His approach mirrors our own philosophy: curiosity, discipline and collaboration.

Q: How does the learning curve here compare to your previous roles?

A: “In my last place, I didn’t have the learning curve I have here. The supportive aspect has been really good. You’re pushed but in the right way.”

Coming from IT support sales, where the target market was broad, Ryan has found the focus on manufacturing both refreshing and intellectually stimulating.

Q: What are your predictions for the profession, given the current economy?

A: “You’ve got to be mindful. Some businesses may not be recruiting, so you need to research the market properly. All industries seem to be on the same wavelength right now, so you’ve got to stay on top of it.”

This awareness is crucial. Manufacturing is cyclical but leadership needs remain constant and that’s where Morgan Ryder adds value.

Why Ryan’s Journey Matters

Ryan’s first three weeks capture what it means to join Morgan Ryder:

· A steep, meaningful learning curve rooted in real industrial understanding

· Autonomy without isolation, you own your work but you’re never on your own

· Exposure to world‑class manufacturing and engineering from day one

· A team that supports, challenges and develops you

· A business built on 24 years of deep sector expertise

His story is exactly the kind of growth we want to foster, ambitious people stepping into a specialist environment and thriving.
